Steal or Splurge? Kohl’s vs. Steven Madden

With a severe shoe addiction and a pitiful bank account, it might not surprise you that I’m a sale-shopping, bargain-hunting maniac. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for saving up and splurging on a really incredible bag or pair of pumps, but I still cannot wrap my head around spending $50 on a pair of plastic Tory Burch flip flops. Plastic.

Tory, you know I love you, but I'd rather buy like 10 acai bowls for the money.

If I’ve learned anything from being raised by a mother who only splurges at department stores (and I’m not talking about Nordstrom), it’s that if you really want something, you have to work for it. When I earned bitchin’ grades my first year of college, she rewarded me with a pair of shoes that I’d been begging for. But what I’ve also learned is that you don’t need to have a lot of money to dress like you do. Case and point: Kohl’s. Here we have two almost identical pairs of heels: one is Steve Madden and one is from Kohl’s. The Steve Madden’s will cost you around $80, whereas the Kohl’s alternative is $30.

The top pair is LC Lauren Conrad and the bottom pair is Steve Madden. I’m not saying the less expensive shoe is better, but I am saying you don’t have to let your style suffer or miss out on a trend that you love because you think you can’t afford it. Check back for more shopping tips that can help save you a lot of money without skimping on style!
